In the year 1008 the Viking King Olof of Sweden or Olof Skotkonung was baptized in the spring outside Husaby church. This occurrence is widely considered to be the beginning of Sweden. Today, 2008 it is exactly 1000 years ago.

THE GREAT JUBILEE TOUR – SCANDINAVIA from 1008 - 2008
SAT 9 AUG Depart U.S.
Board your aircraft for the transatlantic overnight flight to Scandinavia.
SUN 10 AUG Copenhagen
Arrive in Copenhagen. There will be a bus or a taxi to meet at the airport for transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Copenhagen. (D)
MON 11 AUG Copenhagen - Växjö
After breakfast your local guide will meet at the hotel. We start with a sightseeing tour of this delightful city. See the City Hall, the Parliament building, the Amalienborg Palace, which is the home of the royal family, the Stock Exchange, the Gefion Fountain and many other interesting sights. View the world famous statue of the wistful Little Mermaid, inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale. After the tour you have time at leisure for own activities.
We leave Copenhagen and head north through magnificent Danish countryside and follow the coastline to Helsingor where you will see Kronborg Castle. Shakespeare chose Helsingor Castle as the setting for his famous play “Hamlet”'. From Helsingor we take a ferry to Helsingborg in Sweden.
We will drive through lovely country-side where the vast majority of the world famous Swedish crystal glassware originates. We drive directly to one of the most famous glass works and simply go in to watch how the glass is made. Factory outlet shops offer you glass articles to very favorable prices. We start with a visit to the Kosta Boda glassworks. Wander through the showroom, with antique crystal on display and a fully stocked gift shop. We shall enjoy a delicious “Hyttsill” dinner, a Swedish specialty, prepared in one of the kilns, to the accompaniment of local entertainment at the glassworks. In old times, workers gathered around the furnaces and cooked their meals in the glowing ovens. After a nice evening we drive to Vaxjo and check in to our hotel. Overnight stay in Vaxjo. (B, D)
TUE 12 AUG Växjö - Stockholm
After breakfast we make a visit to the House of Emigrants. The House of Emigrants comprises an archive, library, museum, and research center, relating to the period of major Swedish emigration between 1846 and 1930 when 1.3 million (about 25%) of the Swedish population left the country. After this visit we leave Växjö. We drive along the beautiful shores of Lake Vättern to the small and delightful city of Gränna where we make a stop. We drive on to Vadstena, the former place of pilgrimages. Here you can see the Renaissance Castle and the Brigitte Monastery. We cross over the Göta Canal, “the blue ribbon of Sweden”, connecting the west coast with the east coast. In the late afternoon we arrive in Stockholm. Dinner and overnight stay in Stockholm. (B,D)
WED 13 AUG Stockholm
After breakfast your local guide will meet at the hotel and take you on a sightseeing tour. You will see the Stockholm's City Hall, one of Sweden's foremost buildings in the National Romantic style. Each year on December 10th the Nobel Prize Banquet takes place in the Golden Hall. Your guide will take you through the Sodermalm district, stopping at Fjallgatan, from where there is a spectacular view of Stockholm. Included in the tour is also a visit to the Vasa ship museum, with the warship Vasa - the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world. The balance of the day is at leisure for you to explore Stockholm on your own. Overnight stay in Stockholm. (B)
THU 14 AUG Stockholm – Husaby - Göteborg
– JUBILEE DAY –
Today we leave Stockholm and drive through beautiful Swedish countryside. We stop en route to enjoy a genuine Swedish Smorgasbord.
After lunch we continue to the small village of Husaby where we stop to celebrate Sweden's 1000 years anniversary. A precious moment will be held in the church to commemorate that a millennium has passed. After this ceremony our tour continues through province Västergötland, often called the cradle of Sweden. We arrive in Göteborg where we stay for the night. (B, L)

FRI 15 AUG Goteborg
In the morning we take you on an exciting sightseeing tour of Goteborg. The city was founded by the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf in 1621, and designed by the Dutch. The city boasts splendid classical architecture, masses of park land and a welcoming and relaxed spirit. Goteborg is a pretty city with broad avenues, elegant squares, trams and canals. We will also visit the Horticultural Garden in Goteborg. In this garden there will be one of Europe’s largest flower and garden exhibitions – Gardens of Gothenburg 2008 – that will make a visit to the exhibition a horticultural experience of the highest international class. Behind the designs are several leading Swedish and international landscape architects.
Tonight we will also visit the Liseberg Park (also part of the Gardens of Gothenburg 2008), one of Europe’s top amusement parks.
Dinner tonight in the park in a typical west-coast environment. Overnight stay in Goteborg (B,D)
SAT 16 AUG Göteborg- Dalsland
– HOMECOMING DAY –
After breakfast, depart for a tour through beautiful landscape. We pass through Trollhättan where the Göta River takes a mighty leap – a spectacular sight, which has attracted visitors to the town for centuries. We drive through the province Dalsland, and along Lake Vänern, which is Europe’s largest lake. After about 2 hours drive we stop in Langbron where we board a boat that will take us on a cruise on Dalsland Canal, one of the world’s most beautiful waterways. The cruise ends in Håverud where we stop to look at the famous aqueduct. You will experience a unique crossing point of waterway, railway and road. In Upperud we will also have time to visit a shop filled with typical handicrafts from the region. Banquet dinner tonight in connection with the HOMECOMING DAYS.Overnight stay in Dalsland. (B, L, D)

SUN 17 AUG Dalslan - Oslo

The day starts with a scenic coach ride as we drive through deep forests and pass many lakes on our way from Dalsland to Oslo.
Later meet your local guide for a sightseeing tour. As you will see, Oslo is a capital city with nature at its very doorstep. Forests, fjords, farms, mountains, and meadows are all encompassed within the city limits. Included in the tour is a stroll through the famous Vigeland Park, a visit to Holmenkollen Ski jump and the Viking ship museum. Time to rest or for own activities before dinner. Overnight stay in Oslo. (B, D)
MON 18 AUG Oslo
After breakfast you proceed to the harbor.
Board a boat that will take you on guided.
2-hour cruise on the Oslo Fjord, passing through a maze of green islands. On the boat you will be served a traditional Norwegian prawn buffet. The rest of the afternoon at leisure.

TUE 19 AUG Return to U.S.
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, say goodbyes with your new friends and transfer to the airport for your return flights home.(B)
